Composition: Each softgel capsule contains:
Cholecalciferol (Ph. Eur.)…….200,000 IU (Vitamin D3 ) (Manufacturer’s Specs.)
1. What Adaben® (Vitamin D3 200,000 IU) is and what it is used for?
Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) is a fat-soluble vitamin essential for:
Healthy bones and teeth
Absorption of calcium and phosphorus
Strengthening the immune system
Supporting muscle function
Indications:
Infertility
Treatment and prevention of Vitamin D deficiency
Osteomalacia (in adults)
Use of Adaben® in infertility:
Men: Vitamin D3 improve sperm count and motility in men. Direct link has been reported between vitamin D3 levels and semen quality as well as androgen status of men. With vitamin D3, testosterone levels can be boost up.
Women: In female reproduction, including IVF outcome, Vitamin D3 is involved. While comparing PCOS women who took vitamin D3 and those with deficiency of vitamin D3, women with supplements have improve menstrual frequency, and have less metabolic disturbances.
As a supplement in individuals with increased Vitamin D requirements:
Elderly
Pregnant or breastfeeding women
People with limited sun exposure
Patients with malabsorption syndromes
2. Do not take Adaben® if you:
Are allergic to Vitamin D3 or any other ingredient in this product.
Have high levels of calcium in your blood (hypercalcemia).
Have high levels of Vitamin D in your body (hypervitaminosis D).
Suffer from severe kidney problems or kidney stones.
Warnings and Precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this supplement if you:
Have kidney disease.
Have heart disease.
Have sarcoidosis or other granulomatous diseases.
Are taking any other medicines containing Vitamin D.
Are immobile for long periods.
Have a tendency to form kidney stones.
Interactions with Other Medicines
Tell your doctor if you are taking:
Other Vitamin D supplements or multivitamins
Calcium supplements
Steroids (like Prednisone)
Weight loss medicines containing Orlistat
Medicines for epilepsy (like Phenytoin or Barbiturates)
Cholestyramine (for lowering cholesterol)
Digoxin (for heart problems)
Thiazide diuretics (for high blood pressure)
3. How to take Adaben® ?
Always take this medicine exactly as directed by physician.
Recommended Dose:
Prevention: 1 capsule every 2-3 months or as advised.
Treatment of deficiency: 1 capsule every 2-4 weeks or as directed.
Maintenance dose: 1 capsule every 2-3 months.
Swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not chew.
Special populations:
Children: As advised by the doctor.
Elderly: As per doctor’s advice.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Take only if recommended by your doctor.
4. Adverse Reactions
Overtoxicity results hyperphosphatemia or hypercalcemia (in excess intake) and associated effects of hypercalcemia include hypercalciuria, ectopic calcification, renal & CV damage.
Contraindications:
Cholecalciferol is contraindicated in:
Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the product.
Hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, calcium lithiasis.
Renal Dysfunction or kidney failure
CAUTION:
Caution must be taken if the patient:
Had an allergic reaction to Vitamin D.
Has high levels of blood calcium or vitamin D.
Total dose of Cholecalciferol must be careful in case of simultaneous intake of other drugs containing this vitamin, to avoid any overdose.
In malabsorption.
Avoid using vitamins or mineral supplements and antacids unless prescribed by a physician.
OVERDOSE SYMPTOMS:
In case of overdose the common symptoms that may occur include:
Fatigue, Muscle Pain, Nausea, Dry skin itching.
